Official British and Irish Lions Touring Squad For Tour of South Africa 2009
Following on from our last blog article in which we chose our own British and Irish Lions Squad, the official Lions squad for this years tour to South Africa has now been announced as follows:
Backs: Lee Byrne, Rob Kearney, Shane Williams, Lee Halfpenny, Ugo Monye, Luke Fitzgerald, Tommy Bowe, Tom Shanklin, Jamie Roberts, Brian O’Driscoll, Keith Earls, Riki Flutey, Ronan O’Gara, Stephen Jones, Mike Phillips, Harry Ellis, Tomas O’Leary.
Forwards: Jamie Heaslip, Andy Powell, David Wallace, Stephen Ferris, Alan Quinlan, Joe Worsley, Martyn Williams, Alun-Wyn Jones, Paul O’Connell, Donncha O’Callaghan, Simon Shaw, Nathan Hines, Gethin Jenkins, Adam Jones, Andrew Sheridan, Phil Vickery, Euan Murray, Jerry Flannery, Lee Mears, Matthew Rees.

Great to see Paul O’Connell get this job. Hopefully they gel and it turns into a memorable series unlike the last one. Good luck to them all.
I cannot believe Ryan Jones has been left out. He was left out of the last Lions tour to NZ and only called in as a replacement. When he got here he was your best forward, very similar in style to NZ and Sth African loosies. If I was picking the best loose forward trio for the tests it would be the 3 Welsh loosies. Ironic isnt it that Stephen Jones the scribe who hates NZ rubgy goes on about NZ pinching all the Pacific Island players. At least they were born here or grew up here (its called immigration Stephen)and there you guys go and pick Riki Flutey, a kiwi.
At the end of the day, I cant really see you guys beating the SAFAs, competitive yes, winning no. Go the Huricanes.
So sorry to see Thomas O Leary get injured last i so thrilled for Paul and young Keith Earls i hope they all do well
Devastating news for the lions that tom shanklin is the latest casualty looking forward for the tour to kick off good luck boys!!!!
